Region Mask is a free online tool that lets you pick one area of your photo and change the rest. Draw a focus area as a rectangle, band, circle, triangle, star or lightning bolt; defocus the outside with bokeh, radial, directional or swirl blur, turn it black-and-white or paint it with another colour look — or both. How to use it
- Add your photo (JPG, PNG, WEBP or iPhone HEIC).
- Press "◱ Focus area · blur behind" and move or resize the area on the edit frame.
- Choose Look or Blur for the outside; Blur can take a look too (e.g. black-and-white).
- Optionally add a circle so the subject spills out of the frame, then pick a frame style and zoom.
- Compare before/after and download lossless.
Frequently asked questions
How do I blur the background of a photo?
Put the focus area over the subject, choose "Blur" for the outside and pick bokeh, radial, directional or swirl. The transition slider softens the edge.
Can the subject break out of the frame?
Yes. Use "◯ Add circle" to widen the area; the AI cuts the subject out and draws it over the frame.
Is it free and does it work on phones?
